Travel Agency Not Affected by Cruise Disaster 2012/01/21 at 11:09 am

The search for victims continues in Italy, days after a giant cruise ship ran aground.

Tuesday five more bodies were found, bringing the death toll to 11.

Meanwhile, a new audio recording reveals authorities tried to talk the ships captain into returning to the ship he abandoned while others struggled for their lives.

The tragedy in the Mediterranean Sea hasnt seemed to stop people in some parts of our area from booking cruises.

Despite the dramatic images of the Costa Concordia cruise ship flooding TV sets and newspaper headlines, it hasnt slowed down some passengers booking cruises.

At Tuckers Travel Shoppe in Wilkes-Barre agent Valerie Berzanski said she hasnt made one single cancellation since the disaster.

I haven`t had anyone here at the agency cancel a cruise or even talk about concerns about the situation. They all say it`s sad, yes they`ve heard of it but no one has canceled any cruises because of the situation there, Berzanski said.

That includes Ellen Savakinas who will be crusing the Carribbean in just three weeks.

We`ve been on 15 of them and never even had a scare, not even bad sea. There`s so many ships on the sea they`re not going to all topple over. No, it`s safe, Savakinas said.

At Tuckers Travel Shoppe 40 percent of all vacations booked are cruises. In fact, three were booked Tuesday.

Just because no one canceled their trip doesnt mean they are not thinking about those surreal images coming from just off the coast of Italy.

You think OMG how could that happen. To see something that large topple on the side it takes awhile to wrap your head around but no, I`ll continue to cruise until it happens to me, Savakinas added.
