FREE workshops are being held during the school holiday at Pets at Home.

The Southend store is launching the Kids Holiday Pet Club, which will teach children about the responsibilities of pet ownership.

There will be two types of workshop – one focusing on ‘Furry Friends’ and the other will be ‘Scales and Fins’.

At ‘Furry Friends’ workshops, children will learn how to look after a variety of furry animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pets such as hamsters, rats and gerbils.

The ‘Scales and Fins’ workshops will focus on fish, wildlife and even reptiles in some stores. The fish and reptile workshops are particularly suited to asthma sufferers and anyone with allergies to animal hair who may be interested in owning a pet.

David Sexton, store manager, told the YA that the clubs are a great way to give children the chance to interact with pets, while learning how to care for them responsibly.

He said: “The workshops have proved extremely popular since we first introduced them four years ago, offering parents a fun activity for their children to do during the school summer holidays.

“Also, importantly in today’s climate, all our workshops are free.”
